nft journey
A tweet compilation showing my NFT journey: minting my first collection, selling out, exploring new platforms, and sharing memes with people thousands of miles away.
After a few months of sharing my art online, connecting with artists in the NFT space, and with only 200 followers, I applied for an art grant hosted by Sloika.xyz - a photography only NFT platform that was recommended to me by a fellow crypto friend in my months of lurking the space. In December 2021, I was awarded Sloika’s 1Roll grant - jumpstarting my NFT journey.
gratitude is incredibly important.
After some promotional tweets leading up to the Big Mint Day, I wrapped up finishing touches and minted my collection of 10 1/1 NFTs on December 20th.
Slowly at first, I started gaining new followers and had my first two sales. As a perk, I personally printed and mailed a physical copy of their NFT to my first collector - the founder of Sloika. I think reaching out physically to those we meet online is incredibly important to bridge the gap that online spheres can sometimes create. Mailing letters and prints to my collectors allowed me to create stronger friendships and connections to those I met in the internet sphere.
silly little “not financial advice” joke only for 2022 to bring the crypto crash…but it’s ok because we’re in it for the art.
Love rewarding collectors in small ways that I can - Gleek3r purchased two of my NFTs at once so he received two prints of his NFTs. A fellow photographer who said his work reminded me of his when he was young. Humanity ties us all together in similar ways and I believe connecting with each other online on a human level is what differentiates a money grab and an active supporter and builder in the web3 space.
By February, I had sold out half of my collection - worth about 2.5 eth at the time. With Twitter, it’s important to say consistent and keep sharing and connecting to as many people as possible. Whether it’s in the DMs, a group chat, or replying to their tweets. I met so many wonderful people and collectors this way - creating a real friendships with likeminded folk through the blue light of a screen.
March came around and after about three weeks with no sales and BTC Miami quickly approaching, an anonymous collector made my year.
It took me about two and a half months to sell my collection and to put into words to describe the gratitude I feel towards NFTs for making me feel like a true professional artist after years of shouting into the Instagram void would be an impossible task.
Immediately after, I began working on Floral Lovescapes II (still in the works), minting more art on different platforms and using different coins to mint my work. I got the chance to meet incredible, inspiring, people in the space through crypto events, was a part of several group shows, collaborated with DAOs to mint works, and even had one of my NFTs displayed in Times Square. All because of Twitter.
The internet and crypto feel like the Wild West sometimes and the best way to join is to go with the flow, participate, and not shy away. Authenticity is your biggest asset when tweeting out into the void - whether you have 200 followers, 10k, or 50k, people are looking to relate and be related to. We are all human, after all.
